Picture: Nigel HallettQUEENSLAND is seeing a rise in teenagers getting a foot on the property ladder with first home buyers hitting their highest level in almost a decade.Latest ABS figures show over one in four new home loans went to first home buyers in Queensland (26.6 per cent), with 18 to 19-year-olds among newbies that have jumped at strong concessions in the market.Houseandland.com.au chief executive Dean Kyros said there was “an urgency” now, with first-timers as young as 18 to 19 using “creative finance” to get in the market.“First home buyers are coming in as early as 19, concerned over the ever-increasing price of real estate. I plan to live in this one and I’m hoping to do another two more.”PRDnationwide’s Dr Diaswati Mardiasmo said Queensland had the second highest jump in first home buyer loans in the country over the past 12 months (up 8.5 per cent) with affordability levels above the Australian average.Mr Kyros said younger first home buyers were coming in all sorts of joint arrangements “from two friends coming together as well as couples and siblings”, with the key teenage homebuyer criteria being stable employment, a deposit and access to funds like parental guarantees.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting in Belle Glade.The shooting occurred Wednesday evening along Martin Luther King Blvd.Deputies responded to a report of shots fired around 8:30 p.m.The first deputies on scene found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the street.He was transported to the hospital where he did shortly after.Deputies found three other victims being treated at Lakeside Medical Center, two of which had gunshot wounds.One of the two victims later died..The third victim was injured after being struck by a car fleeing the scene.The victims have not been identified, and a motive has not been established at this time.
Rocky Johnson, a World Wide Wrestling pioneer and the father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has died at age 75, according to reports.Johnson passed away on Wednesday in the Tampa Bay area.Nicknamed “Soul Man,” Johnson began his career with the National Wrestling Alliance in the mid-1960s. He joined the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) in 1983, and found success there until his retirement in 1991.Even during retirement, Johnson continued to train up-and-coming wrestlers, including his son.The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame announced last month that Rocky Johnson had joined the organization as a board member.Johnson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his son in 2008.
There is a new addition to Florida’s First Family.Gov. Ron DeSantis and his wife, Casey, announced the birth of their third child, Mamie, Monday.The name is possibly a nod to Mamie Eisenhower who was married to President Dwight D. Eisenhower for 52 years“Ron and I are beyond blessed to welcome our new baby girl, Mamie to the world,” DeSantis wrote. “At 7 lbs 4 oz she was the smallest of the bunch, but she is already holding her own. Madison and Mason are so excited for their new baby sister!”The tweets didn’t say when the baby was born, but the governor said Casey and the children are all doing well. DeSantis is scheduled to be in Miami at 10 a.m. Monday for a news conference regarding coronavirus.
