Sometimes you run out of room for your stuff, and you have to move to a bigger house.Western Digital agrees, and they know that the same rule applies to your data. They’re making it easier to expand with a cavernous new house where you can cram all your files. And probably all your family members’/roommates’ files, too. Their latest MyBook Duo features a whopping 20TB of hard drive space. You can tell from the picture and the name that this isn’t a single external drive. Like other Duos, this one offers room for a pair of hard drives (two 10TB WD Red drives, in this case). It’s the size of a rather large book, weighing in at over 5 pounds and measuring 7 x 4 x 6.3 inches.WD lets you choose how to allocate your drive space. Set the tandem up for JBOD, and you’ve got the full 20TB to play with. You can also play it safe and create a RAID-1 array to mirror your precious files. Add another layer of protection by locking them down with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. When the day comes that you actually accumulate enough digital stuff to fill up your 20TB MyBook Duo, you won’t have to “move to another house,” so to speak. You can just hook up another massive drive to one of the two USB 3.0 ports on the back. You can also use them as regular hub ports to connect things like keyboards, mice, and webcams or even charge your phone.Other capacities are available, too, starting at 4TB and climbing up in 4TB increments (with a 6TB thrown in just to shake things up). Prices start at $279.99 direct from Western Digital and top out at $849.99 for the 20TB model.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img
