We were all able to put on the fire uniforms and put the fires out.” – Academy Alumni Eli RiveraAnnually, the Police and Fire departments of the City of Apopka provide this educational program where adults learn the inner workings of the departments.  Participants experience what being a police officer or firefighter is like and will learn all aspects of police and fire services and participate in discussions and exercises.Topics Include:Crime Scene InvestigationsFire SuppressionEvidence CollectionVehicle ExtricationsSearch and SeizureBuilding SearchesHigh Angle RescuesDefensive Driving, Traffic LawsJudicial ProcessCriminal InvestigationsK-9 demonstrationsCourt Room and Jail ToursWho Should Attend ?  Anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of law enforcement and fire services in Apopka.“I was most surprised by the historical perspective of how the Apopka Fire Department developed in the city.” – Academy Alumni Howard WashingtonThe classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for eight weeks beginning on February 25, 2016.This very popular program is limited to only twenty-five individuals.  There are minimum qualifications to attend and a thorough background check will be conducted on each applicant.The Apopka Citizen Public Safety Academy application can be picked up at the Police Department.  Email [email protected] to request an application or download an application using this link.
