“The [meat] will then be distributed to the locals,” Sutarmidji said on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.In addition to Jokowi’s cow, the provincial administration is also due to distribute 35 cows to 14 regencies and cities in the region. Sutarmidji said he would personally donate three additional cows.He advised against gathering to watch the annual qurban (animal sacrifice) ritual to minimize the risk of COVID-19 contagion.“The [qurban] committee will carry out the sacrifice and deliver [the meat] to directly to people’s homes,” he said. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has donated cattle to several regional administrations ahead of Idul Adha (Day of Sacrifice), which is expected to fall on Friday.West Kalimantan Governor Sutarmidji said on Tuesday that the administration had received a 1.2 ton cow that was purchased by the President from a local farmer in Rasau Jaya district, Kubu Raya regency. He said the cow was to be donated directly to Nuril Jannah Mosque in Peniti Dalam village, Segedong district, Mempawah regency. The Papua provincial administration also acquired a cow weighing between 800 kilograms and 1 ton courtesy of Jokowi on Tuesday.Papua Food and Agriculture Agency head Semuel Siriwa said the cow, purchased from a local farm in Keerom regency, was to be donated to Al-Fatah Abepantai Mosque in the provincial capital of Jayapura.“The cow has fulfilled all the qurban requirements as stipulated in Agriculture Ministerial Regulation No. 114/2014,” Siriwa said, adding that the animal had been declared free of contagious diseases.A cow donated by Jokowi to the West Sulawesi administration reportedly thrashed around for hours in Polewali Mandar regency.Nicknamed “Puang Tedong”, the 1.2-ton cattle jerked around violently while it was being brought to a slaughterhouse in Pasangkayu regency on Monday. The Religious Affairs Ministry has banned mass celebrations of Idul Adha in areas considered at high risk of COVID-19 contagion by their respective regional administrations. A dramatic turn in the impeachment inquiry may come from the possible rat’s mouth who is also from Boca Raton.Associate of Rudy Giuliani and Ukrainian-American businessman Lev Parnas is reportedly ready to work with impeachment investigators in Congress.“Mr. Parnas was very upset by President Trump’s plainly false statement that he did not know him,” Joseph A. Bondy, a new lawyer for Parnas, told The New York Times. “We are willing to comply with the subpoena to the extent that it does not violate any appropriate privilege that Mr. Parnas may properly invoke.”Parnas is described as a key figure in the inquiry into whether President Trump abused his office for political gain.Investigators believe Parnas helped Giuliani look for dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.Parnas and his business associate Igor Fruman were arrested in early October on a four-count indictment, which includes charges of conspiracy, making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, and falsification of records. Both co-defendants have plead not guilty in the case.Parnas was initially unwilling to cooperate after receiving a letter from House Democrats requesting documents and deposition in connection with the inquiry just a week before his arrest. He then hired John Dowd, a former attorney for Trump, who called the congressional requests overly broad and said Parnas would not cooperate. But Parnas seemingly had a change of heart, as well as legal representation after president Trump denied knowing him or his business associate.“I don’t know them,” Trump told reporters, according to the Times. “Maybe they were clients of Rudy.“You’d have to ask Rudy,” Trump added. It is unclear at this time whether the latest development in the impeachment inquiry will affect Trump or his administration.
A decision made by the Orlando, Florida Police Department appears to be a victory for privacy advocates. The city announced yesterday police have stopped using Amazon’s facial recognition program after 15 months of testing. But due to bandwidth problems the program never went live.Orlando says it will stop testing Amazon’s facial-recognition tool. The city wanted Rekognition to alert if anyone on a police watchlist passed one of their surveillance cameras, but they never made “any noticeable progress” https://t.co/SUJxJZk3W2— Drew Harwell (@drewharwell) July 18, 2019 The program was designed to find suspects by scanning public spaces with facial recognition software. The ACLU was among those who criticized the program, but Mayor Buddy Dyer says the decision not to pursue the program was based on a lack of resources. The technology is designed to automatically identify and track suspects in real-time using facial recognition algorithms.“At this time, the city was not able to dedicate the resources to the pilot to enable us to make any noticeable progress toward completing the needed configuration and testing,” Orlando’s Chief Administrative Office said in a memo to City Council, adding that the city has “no immediate plans regarding future pilots to explore this type of facial recognition technology.”The American Civil Liberties Union brought Orlando’s pilot with Amazon to light in May 2018, triggering nationwide pushback from civil rights groups concerned about privacy breaches, the technology’s potential for abuse and its tendency to misidentify dark-skinned women more frequently than white men. Plus there is still the uncertainty over whether the controversial face-scanning technology “actually works.”

Reports say that by the end of the week Uber riders will be able to use a four-digit pin code to verify they’re getting into the right car. With the new feature, Uber sends a four-digit pin code to the rider. Then, before getting into the car, the rider tells the driver the pin code. The driver enters the pin code into the app, and if everything matches up, the rider gets a notification that says “your ride is verified.”The new feature comes after a number of states have been pushing for more safety requirements for Uber drivers following the death of 21-year-old Samantha “Sami” Josephson, who was murdered in March after getting into the car of a man impersonating an Uber driver.Back in December Uber released a report that also raised concerns regarding safety. The report revealed that 464 people, mostly riders, reported that they were raped while using its services in the U.S. in 2017 and 2018, and there were more than 3,000 assaults reported in 2018.In New Jersey a law passed requiring ride-hailing drivers to display identification signs on the car’s front windshield or rear window. North Carolina passed a law requiring Uber and Lyft drivers to display lighted signs.Rebecca Payne, senior product manager at Uber, said that the best way to make sure you are getting into the right car is to check the license plate.
