The concept of a traditional Japanese teahouse inspired the project located in Lower Austria. The building was designed as a contemporary interpretation of a teahouse that allows for a more diverse use. It serves as a place for drinking tea and observing silence and as a space for regression therapy for clients with the possibility for overnight stays.Save this picture!© Christine LeuthnerSeparated from the private house with an attached therapy room the teahouse is located in the property’s garden, among trees and bushes. Four pillars, made out of tree trunks, elevate the organic structure from the ground and allow the vegetation to grow both under and around the building. The massive black base adds the feeling of stability and durability to the teahouse, while the rest of the building rises organically from the base. A ramp serves to access the building comfortably. It is made out of tree trunks, as traditionally used by wine farmers in Lower Austria, and separated from the teahouse by a small gap.Save this picture!SectionTo create the building’s organic form while still using a low-tech approach to the construction, we used small timber offcuts. A local barrel-maker provided the oak wood offcuts that were recycled on site. The timber pieces were stacked above each other in more than 40 layers, following the form of pre-built templates.  A trapezoid shape, inserted into the organic form of the teahouse, frames the big window. Through the materiality of oak timber and copper, the teahouse fits into the surrounding vegetation and becomes part of the grown garden.Save this picture!© Christine LeuthnerThe low and narrow entrance of the teahouse opens up to the seemingly spacious interior. The inside features a protecting character like a cave or a uterus. An oval opening in the ceiling allows natural lighting to gleam into the building through painted glazing. For this purpose, a painting by the owner herself was printed on glass.  Save this picture!PlanThe small window offers a close look onto the bark of a nearby tree trunk. The frame around the big square window serves as a piece of furniture inviting to sit down. It directs the views towards the swimming pond as well as to the therapy room in the existing building. Save this picture!© Christine LeuthnerThe main material for the Teahouse is locally chopped oak timber. Due to the chosen construction method, we were able to recycle small timber offcuts of a local wine-barrel-maker for the main structure of the teahouse. The furniture and fixtures are made out of oak timber as well. Save this picture!© Christine LeuthnerProject gallerySee allShow lessFeyenoord Receives Green Light for New Football Training Complex in RotterdamUnbuilt Project3 Stories / GASPARBONTASelected Projects Share CopyAbout this officea-lp architekturOfficeFollowProductWood#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesOtherSmall ScaleAustriaPublished on April 02, 2017Cite: “Teahouse Riedenthal / a-lp architektur” 02 Apr 2017. England’s Ellis battles back to win The Amateur

first_img England’s Harry Ellis battled back from four holes down with five to play to win the 36-hole final of The 122nd Amateur Championship at Royal St George’s today. The 21-year-old from Meon Valley followed in the footsteps of his former Hampshire teammate, 2016 Amateur champion Scott Gregory, to lift the famous trophy after defeating Australia’s Dylan Perry in a dramatic match that went to the 38th hole. Ellis, who became the youngest player to win the English Amateur Championship aged just 16 in 2012, secured a place in The 146th Open at Royal Birkdale, next year’s US Open at Shinnecock Hills and, by tradition, an invitation to the Masters Tournament in 2018. Ellis said: “It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe what I have just done but you should never give up and never give in. I just kept giving myself chances down the stretch and luckily played much better than I had all day and somehow it was good enough that we had to go to the 38th hole.” Looking ahead, he added: “It (The Open) is very soon. Obviously, it’s on another links course at Royal Birkdale so we will see how we go. I just want to soak up the experience there and get as much from it as I possibly can. It has always been a dream to play in majors and I get to play in three now. My game is in a good place so hopefully I can do something there. For me I just want to soak it in. “My life tried to change at 16 when I won the English Amateur but I think at 21 I’m ready for it. I understand what is going to be ahead. Really, I just appreciate life a lot more, you know the story behind everything (after his mother passed away four years ago), and I’ve got to put it into perspective. Golf is an up and down game – it gives you some really bad times and it give you some really great times like today and just got to take the rough with the smooth.” The match was extremely close for most of the day and the first 18 holes were nip and tuck with neither player able to build more than a one hole lead. The match was all square going into the afternoon and although Ellis won the 20th hole with a birdie three it was the Australian who seized the initiative. Perry, who recently won the Riversdale Cup in his homeland, won four consecutive holes from the 22nd to go 3-up, before winning the 27th with a par to give him a commanding four hole lead with nine to play. Perry and Ellis continued to trade holes but the Australian maintained his four hole lead as the pair approached the 32nd hole. With only five holes to play Ellis’ second shot came within inches of going out of bounds. Perry, however, found trouble in a bunker and Ellis seized his opportunity to hole a putt for par and win the hole. That gave Ellis a lift and, after halving the next, he kept his nerve steady to win the next two holes with pars. On the 36th green, Perry missed a ten foot par putt to claim victory and the match went to extra holes. Stepping up to the 1st tee at Royal St George’s for the third time today both players played cautiously and halved the hole in par but the match was brought to a dramatic conclusion on the next. At the par-4 38th hole, Ellis was through the green in two and chipped to four feet while Perry, after hitting his second shot into a deep swail from which he struggled to escape, was on the green in four. When he missed his 8ft putt for bogey, Ellis had two putts for the championship but required only one to seal a memorable comeback victory. Perry said afterwards: “I’m a bit bummed but golf is a strange game. At the end of the day I have got to take the positives out of the week and move forward. “I played good all day and then down the stretch – that’s what the pressure does to some people. I hit a few good putts and had a nice few holes but it obviously just wasn’t meant to be. Congratulations to him, he played well down the stretch so good on him. “I have the European Amateur next week so I’ll rest up for that. Hopefully I can go one better.” The 123rd Amateur Championship will be played at Royal Aberdeen and Murcar Links from 18 to 23 June, 2018. Andy Rodefer, June 8

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Things are pretty decent. We’ve been getting a lot of field work done. We have been getting rain periodically in small amounts — anywhere from two- or three-tenths to a half inch at a time in the last two weeks. On the seed side of my business I still have several guys who are not done planting beans yet. There are small pockets where it has just been too wet. Everyone has been complaining that the corn stalks aren’t drying out in this area.A lot of the smaller guys were waiting for ideal conditions and we just haven’t had them. There is a small area just east of here and they catch every rain. They just can’t get dried out. But still, if you go south of Eaton, there have been some really dry spots down there. We got most of our sidedressing done and we should be done with that this week. We are getting ready to put some fungicide on our corn and we have been trying to spray some of the early-planted soybeans. We had enough rainfall through the planting season that it really helped things get out of the ground. We were pretty fortunate to get some of those rains so the ground didn’t get hard. As far as replant goes, there is not too much in this area. I don’t think we have the best crop I ‘ve ever seen or anything, but we do have good stands for the most part in corn and beans. All we need now is moisture to carry us through. We did find cutworm in soybeans, which is very unusual. They were cutting some beans off but not bad enough to replant. We did spray there. There was a field of no-till corn in the area with slugs that had to be replanted in a few small areas.last_img read more
